Chinese New Year is just not celebrated in China, but is also celebrated in other parts of the world, especially where there is a large Chinese Community.
In 2017, Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
Chinese New Year is a big event in Philadelphia. Here every year the Chinese New Year Celebrations are organised by the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC).
In Philadelphia, traditionally starts off a new year at 11:00 pm, the previous day, at “Paifang” China gate with the Lion Dance Parade and fireworks.
Paifang is located at 10th Street in Philadelphia, situated between Market and Arch street.
Apart from this there is a Chinatown Flower Market which is also opened a day prior to the Chinese New Year Day.
Then on the New Year’s Day there is a Philadelphia Suns Lion Dance which takes place from 11 am to 2 pm at the 10th & Spring St. and there is a display of Martial Arts Performances at the 10th & Arch St.
On the weekend prior to the Chinese New Year’s Day, the a marvelous Penn Museum has its annual Chinese New Year Celebration which includes kung-fu demonstration, Ba’z Tai Chi demonstration, a Year of the Horse craft, language classes, calligraphy and much more.
