Oakura New Year’s Day Carnival 2020

Just like people in other parts of the world, people of New Zealand also celebrate Gregorian New Year on 1st January, with great New Year’s Eve Parties and Midnight Fireworks.

One such famous New Year’s Day Party takes place in Oakura, a small township in Taranaki, in the western North Island of New Zealand.

Oakura, well know for its Oakura Beach is 15 kilometres south-west of New Plymouth and is well know in New Zealand for its New Year’s Day Beach Carnival.

For Year 2020, Oakura proudly presents the 48th annual Oakura New Year’s Day Beach Carnival!

To welcome the new year 2020, the event is to kick-off a whole new tradition – Taranaki’s biggest Mitre 10 Mega Beach Water Fight!

Bring your Christmas water weaponry and unleash that COD soldier. Water pistols, Super Soakers, Aqua Blasters and Saturators or any sort of aquatic artillery is welcome but no dangerous objects allowed. Participants can also buy “fill-your-own” water balloons before the battle begins.

There will be a separate battle for the little ones (under 10) so they won’t have to worry

Along with the water fight, there will also be a water slide to try out.

Plenty of live music like: X Factor favourite, Tom Batchelor, school bands and The Slacks.

Old favourites include: Little Miss Taranaki and Mr Muscles contests for under 10 year olds and plenty of entertainment on the day including the Clelands Construction Children’s Play Zone, a water slide and The Big Dig.

There’ll also be, helicopter rides, plenty of great international food, Mikes craft beer, IRB demonstrations and much more.

The TSB Bank Festival of Lights runs over six weeks from Mid December 2019 to Early February 2020 and includes a fantastic mix of daytime activities for children and families and live night entertainment from a range of local and national performers. All set within the stunning Pukekura Park which dazzles the young and not so young with a spectacular lighting display and special feature installations.
