Chinese New Year is just not celebrated in China, but is also celebrated in other parts of the world, especially where there is a large Chinese Community.
In 2017, Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Saturday, January 28, 2017.
Chinese New Year is a big event in Oakland. Here every year the Chinese New Year Celebrations are organised by the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce.
Weeks prior to the Chinese New Year, in Oakland a Lunar New Year Bazaar – a Chinese New Year Markt is set up on weekend where Chinese Americans come to buy presents, decorations, and special foods. In addition, Chinatown’s restaurants become a hub for many friends and families to gather for traditional Lunar New Year dinners.
This Lunar New Year Bazaar also includes cultural entertainment featuring dragon and lion dancing, martial arts, Chinese cultural music, and a “Little Prince & Princess Contest presented by the Oakland Chinatown Lions Club.
Apart from this, on the New Year’s Day a Chinese New Year Parade 2017 is also organised in Oakland which starts from the Allendale Recording Center and reaches 39th Ave and MacArthur Blvd.
