“Lebanon Bologna Drop” is the annual celebration on New Year’s Eve taking place in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
Lebanon bologna – a type of cured, smoked, and fermented semi-dry sausage made of beef, was first made here, and hence it is part of the new year’s eve celebrations.
This New Year’s Eve Event is similar to the Times Square Ball Drop which takes place on the New Year’s Eve in Manhattan, New York City, however a crystal ball is replaced by a giant bologna.
A 12-foot long bologna weighing nearly 150 pounds is dropped at Ninth and Cumberland streets at the midnight and then the bologna itself is distributed to a local food bank and animal shelter following the drop.
This giant Bologna is made at Kutztown/Daniel Weaver Bologna Company.
The event will also feature a free outdoor concert.
Apart from this there will be a massive display of fireworks taking place there.
County of Lebanon Transit Authority will provide free transportation between Seventh and 11th streets and Maple to Cumberland streets, starting at 11 p.m. The bus will run every 15-20 minutes, with the last leaving Ninth and Cumberland streets at 12:15 a.m.
