Houston – Chinese Lunar New Year Celebrations

Chinese New Year or the Lunar New Year is just not celebrated in China, but is also celebrated in other parts of the world, especially where there is a large Chinese Community.

In 2018, Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Friday, February 16, 2018.

Houston Chinese New Year Celebration

Chinese New Year in a big event in Houston. Here every year the Chinese New Year Celebrations are organised by the Chinese Community Center in Southwest Houston.

In Houston there are two Chinatown, one located in Southwest Houston and another Chinatown called “Old Chinatown” located within the East Downtown Houston district near the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Houston boasts a large and vibrant Asian community, with the second-largest Indochinese population in the United States (behind Los Angeles).

The Houston Chinese New Year Parade features colorful floats, bombastic marching bands, lion dancers, and a massive dragon.

The Lunar New Year Festival in Houston is a multi-cultural Asian celebration showcasing East and West and the diversity of the City of Houston. Starting at 10am and lasting for 6 exciting hours, the large, newly renovated indoor auditorium at the Chinese Community Center hosts an array of riveting, beautiful, and inspiring performances to welcome the Lunar New Year.
